Our new industry-standard Digital Media Centre provides the perfect environment to launch your career in the broadcast, film and media industries. State-of-the-art broadcast quality production equipment including a green screen digital studio, professional editing facilities, and 100% industry-level software will enable you to produce a top-class portfolio of work.

We wish you to understand how the broadcast, film and digital media industries work, and to learn how historical developments and contexts have informed production techniques. Above all, you will build a body of work that prepares you for entry into the media workplace. You are assessed in a variety of ways including written, practical and creative production work done individually (presentations, magazines, creative and career portfolios) and in groups (videos, production planning). Written work will include research projects, files, academic essays, critical self-reflection logs and evaluations. You will receive on-going regular feedback on your progress so you achieve the best possible results.

Throughout the course you will be guided and encouraged to follow your personal interests and develop your strengths through your specialist production. Training in camera work, editing, desktop publishing, screenwriting and journalism will be supported by technical help and hands-on workshop sessions using broadcast-quality 4K camera kits, digital SLR cameras and professional edit suites including Mac computers and industry software (Adobe Master Suite, Da Vinci, Final Cut Pro X, and Final Draft). Access to regional and national festivals will be organised to begin your networking journey into the industry.

Entry Requirements

  • 64 UCAS points (including a media subject) and a creative portfolio or equivalent in an appropriate Level 3 qualification
  • You should also have five GCSEs at grade C or above (or equivalent) including English Language
  • The college will also consider applicants who have passed a Kitemarked Access to Higher Education course (equivalent to 64 UCAS points)
  • You will be required to attend an interview and/or assessment
  • If you do not have the standard entry requirements but have the relevant work experience or an alternative qualification you may still be eligible for the course
