About the course:

This course will attract you if you are currently working or planning the next stage of your education and training in the beauty industry. You will learn new practical techniques or develop those that you have already been introduced to at a lower level. You will also build a strong foundation in the theories and background knowledge of the profession. An important feature of the course is the opportunity to learn and practise techniques such as advanced epilation and laser and light treatments in our state-of-the-art facilities. Throughout your studies you will be offered support in the development of relevant study skills such as IT, independent learning, communication, time management, group work and the examination of case-studies.

Entry requirements:

• 64 UCAS points or equivalent in a Level 3 Beauty Therapy qualification.

• Applicants should also have five GCSEs at grade C or above (or equivalent) including English

• The college will also consider applicants who have passed a Kitemarked Access to Higher Education course (equivalent to 64 UCAS points)

• If you do not have the standard entry requirements but have relevant work experience or an alternative qualification you may still be eligible for the course

• You may be required to attend for an interview and an assessment

Course assessment

You will be assessed by a variety of methods including presentations, observations, case studies and written assignments.

Special features:

This course has been designed with a focus on employability to give you the skills that you will need to progress in your career. Special features of the HND include;

• The college has extensive industry links with a wide range of employers in the beauty industry, providing you with the
opportunity to visit a range of salons and other workplaces and you will attend lectures given by guest speakers.

• You will be required to take part in a period of managed work experience at level 5 of the programme

• You will learn skills in entrepreneurship and business start-up to help you to become self-employed

• The first year of the course focuses on advanced skills, while the second year provides management training that includes modules in human resource management, public relations and business psychology

Career and professional development:

You may be able to progress on to an Honours degree by taking a top-up course. This usually requires 12-18 months of further study.

Additional costs: 

You will be required to buy a salon uniform and personal beauty kit. The total cost of these items will be less than £100 at current prices. All students receive an initial allocation of 600 credits per academic year for printing and photocopying, additional credits can be purchased if required.
